Iran’s Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian has summoned Switzerland’s ambassador to Tehran, Nadine Olivieri Lozano, to emphasize Washington’s responsibility for the Israeli attack on Damascus.

The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Iran, Hossein Amir-Abdollahian, has on Tuesday summoned the ambassador of Switzerland in Tehran, Nadine Olivieri Lozano — representative of US interests in the country due to the absence of diplomatic relations between the two countries –, to emphasize Washington’s responsibility in the Israeli bombing of its consulate in Damascus (Syria), which has left at least six dead.

The Israeli attack on Damascus

Iran has blamed Israel for the bombing of its consulate in Damascus, which left six people dead, five of them members of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps. Among the dead are Generals Reza Zahedi and Mohammad Hadi Haj Rahimi. The attack has caused a wave of condemnation in the Arab world and has led Iran to request an urgent meeting of the UN Security Council.

Washington’s responsibility

Iran’s foreign minister has summoned the Swiss ambassador to emphasize Washington’s responsibility for the Israeli attack on Damascus. The Iranian authorities have explained the ‘dimensions of the terrorist attack’ and the ‘crime of the Israeli regime’ with the support of the US, as well as ensuring that Washington ‘must be held accountable’ for its support for Israel.

International reactions

The Israeli attack on Damascus has caused a wave of condemnation in the Arab world. Iran has requested an urgent meeting of the UN Security Council to address the situation. Tensions between Israel and Iran continue to rise, with the latter repeatedly accusing Israel of fomenting conflict in the region.
