Joan Saura positively assesses the government’s announcement to make repairs and recognition for Companys

The Minister of the Interior of the Generalitat of Catalonia, Joan Saura, has positively assessed the government’s announcement to carry out a reparation and recognition of the figure of Lluís Companys.

The Ministry of Justice has not yet specified a specific date for the act of reparation.

Joan Saura has announced that the Catalan government will request the annulment of the trial against Companys.

The Minister of the Interior has highlighted the symbolic and political importance of this recognition, as it is the first time that a Spanish government has carried out an act of recognition towards the figure of Lluís Companys.

Joan Saura has recalled that, although this recognition comes late, it is necessary and that Lluís Companys is the only democratic president in Europe who was shot by a fascist coup d’état.

The Ministry of Justice has not yet announced a specific date for the act of reparation, which will also include the recognition of the figure of other people who were repressed during the Franco regime.
