A milestone in Lluís Gavaldà’s career

It is public knowledge that Lluís Gavaldà, renowned singer of Els Pets, has a selective memory. However, on this occasion, he reminds us that it has been 20 years since the publication of ‘Pau’, one of the many songs that are part of his repertoire. This song, included in his eighth studio album titled ‘Agost’, has become a classic of Catalan music.

An updated version of the song

The relationship between Cala Vento and Els Pets, especially with Lluís Gavaldà, goes back a long way. The members of Cala Vento, from Ampurdán, have always admired the iconic band from Constantí. This admiration became evident when they invited Gavaldà to collaborate on their album ‘Balanceo’, where he sang on the song ‘Liquidación total’. This song was a hidden gem that was only found on the physical edition of the album. Aleix Turón and Joan Delgado, members of Cala Vento, expressed their appreciation for Els Pets in a recent interview, highlighting their influence on Catalan pop-rock. The friendship, respect and mutual admiration between both bands was strengthened when Cala Vento decided to make an updated version of the song ‘Pau’ to commemorate their 20th anniversary.

A song that reflects current reality

Cala Vento has decided to perform a song completely in Catalan for the first time, and they have chosen ‘Pau’ as their choice. In this new version, the lyrics have been updated to reflect the life of an activist who, instead of being in his twenties, is now in his forties. His activism has adapted to the digital age, but he still faces the same difficulties and precariousness that he experienced in his youth. Cala Vento, by recovering one of the most emblematic songs of Catalan rock of her generation, addresses current social problems. In addition, they have released a video clip that references the original Els Pets, which in turn was inspired by Bob Dylan’s iconic ‘Subterranean Homesick Blues’. In the video clip, Bruno Sokolowicz, who was host of the music program ‘Sputnik’ on TV3 and creator of the Internet radio Scanner FM, plays the character of Pau twenty years later.
