Mobilizations in Seville: The PP Rescues Investments Thanks to the Left, While Vox Remains Firm

The Left Saves the PP Again

Once again, the left has come to the rescue of the Popular Party (PP) government in Seville City Council, allowing the mayor, José Luis Sanz, to approve a series of investment motions crucial for the city. Despite the objections of Vox, which has voted against all the proposals, the abstention or voting in favor of PSOE and Podemos-IU has allowed the PP to obtain the necessary funds to carry out essential projects.

Approved Investments

The local government has achieved the approval of motions that provide it with 14.1 million euros, including an investment of 5.6 million for the Municipal Sports Institute (IMD) and a feasibility plan of 4.7 million for Contursa, the municipal company that manages Fibes, the Congress Palace.

Vox Remains Firm

Despite the approval of these investments, Vox has remained firm in its opposition, arguing that they are ‘patches’ to a budget for 2024 that did not go ahead due to the lack of agreement with the PP. Vox spokesperson Cristina Peláez has reiterated that her party will not support measures that are not part of approved accounts.

Criticism of the Left

The PSOE has criticized the management of the PP, accusing it of ‘lying’ about Contursa’s debt and of ‘abusing’ credit applications. The socialist deputy spokesperson, Sonia Gaya, has also denounced that the local government is pressuring sports entities to support its budget proposals.

Podemos-IU has joined the criticism, denouncing ‘mafia practices’ by the PP. Councilor Ismael Sánchez has accused the local government of pressuring sports clubs and entities to support his measures.

Vox Support in Other Matters

Despite its opposition to the investment motions, Vox has supported the PP on other issues, such as the refusal to allow the Urban Planning delegate, Juan de la Rosa, to give explanations for a Christmas meal paid for by a company collaborating with the City Council. It has also prevented the disapproval of the Culture delegate, Minerva Salas, for preventing a question from the PSOE in a previous session.

Conclusions

The investment motions approved by the Seville City Council have revealed the division between the PP and Vox, which remains firm in its opposition to the local government measures. The left, for its part, has once again demonstrated its willingness to collaborate with the PP, despite its criticism of its management.

The result of these votes underlines the importance of political formations in the current political landscape and their ability to influence decisions that affect the city of Seville.
