A Look at Municipal Policy
After a year immersed in the troubled waters of municipal politics, I allow myself to reflect on the scenarios that present themselves in our day to day life. In a conversation with a journalist friend, the question arose as to why there are people who, despite having a settled life, decide to enter politics. This decision does not seem to be strictly related to the economic aspect, but rather to the feeling of power. It seems that some people, when entering a Town Hall, have the perception that the town belongs to them. This reflection made me realize that, so far, I have identified three groups of individuals in the world of politics.
The Different Profiles in Municipal Politics
The first group is made up of those people who, before entering politics, have a low profile and, when they arrive at City Hall, believe they are in a position of power. These people do not seem to have a clear ideology, but rather seek to occupy a chair that makes them feel important. Their main goal is to discredit others and stay in power at any cost. This behavior turns politics into a sorry spectacle.
The second group is probably the least numerous. These people have a political career, belong to a party and usually have a solid background. Some strongly believe in politics as a tool for the common good, but there are also those who manipulate members of the first group and the third to perpetuate party power.
The third group, probably the largest, consists of those people who have been deceived. Many times, they are captured by members of the second group with promises of change and improvement, but end up being manipulated and unable to cope with the other groups.
Consequences in Citizen Interest
This situation contributes to diminishing citizens’ interest in politics, as they are immersed in partisan speeches and constant elections, without finding a true representation of their interests.
conclusion
Municipal politics is a complex terrain where interests, ideologies and personal aspirations mix. It is important that citizens are informed and able to discern the different dynamics that occur within the Town Halls.
In short, municipal politics is a stage where various attitudes and interests are manifested. It is crucial that citizens are alert and actively participate in making decisions that affect their environment.
