Hamas and Israel are considering a proposal for a lasting ceasefire
The war in Gaza may find an agreed solution between Hamas and Israel to end the conflict. US President Joe Biden has proposed a new plan for a lasting ceasefire that has been welcomed by Hamas. This proposal includes a permanent ceasefire, the withdrawal of Israeli forces from the Gaza Strip, the reconstruction of Gaza and the exchange of prisoners.
Hamas demands for a truce
Hamas has said it is ready to deal constructively with any plan that includes a permanent ceasefire, the full withdrawal of Israeli forces from the enclave, the return of displaced Palestinians to their homes and the reconstruction of Gaza.
The plan proposed by Israel
The plan proposed by Israel envisages a phased truce. In the first phase, there would be a complete ceasefire, the withdrawal of Israeli troops from all populated areas of the Strip and the release of female, elderly and wounded hostages, in exchange for the release of hundreds of prisoners Palestinians During this phase, the second phase will be negotiated, which would involve a permanent end to hostilities, the release of the rest of the hostages, including the soldiers, and the withdrawal of the Jewish army from the Strip. The third and final phase envisages a major reconstruction plan for Gaza with the support of the international community and the US’s Arab allies, as well as the return of the bodies of the murdered hostages.
Support from Biden and the European Union
President Biden has spoken to Israeli leaders to ask for their support for this Middle East peace plan. In addition, the European Union has also expressed its support for the plan proposed by Biden and Israel.
