Unity and celebration after the passage of the Amnesty Law

Òmnium, Junts, ERC, CUP and Commons, along with other civil society entities, have shown this Friday an image of unity after the approval of the Amnesty Law in Congress, in an act that has held in the courtyard of the old La Model prison in Barcelona.

A victory snatched from the State

In a manifesto read by Mallorcan activist Antònia Maria Dols, it is stated that the amnesty is a victory for the State and that it has placed the Catalan conflict on the ground it should not have left. This collective political response is considered a historic milestone and a collective achievement for all those who have worked tirelessly to make this law a reality.

An act of repair

The manifesto also highlights that the immediate application of the amnesty is an unequivocal recognition that repression will not resolve the conflict, and represents an act of reparation for the thousands of Catalans who have been persecuted, investigated, prosecuted, disqualified, fined, imprisoned and forced to exile.

The importance of internal diversity

The manifesto highlights that the Amnesty Law is the result of the efforts of civil society and the determination of the sovereignty and independence movement. This highlights that the necessary internal plurality and diversity of the movement must not be an impediment to the defense and achievement of shared objectives.

The fight continues

Despite celebrating this victory, the manifesto reminds us that today nothing ends or begins. The fines, imprisonments and investigations have strengthened those who justify independence, and therefore, they will continue to work for the great consensus of the country, for a just society and to guarantee the free exercise of Catalonia’s right to self-determination.
