Ten arrested in police operation in Manlleu

A joint device formed by the Mossos d’Esquadra, the Ertzaintza of the Basque Country, the Civil Guard and the National Police has carried out an operation in Manlleu to dismantle a group investigated for more than a thousand bank scams throughout the state.

The agents have searched eight homes in Manlleu and one in Roda de Ter, resulting in the arrest of a dozen people. Three of these arrests took place in an occupied home on Carrer Montserrat de Manlleu, including a minor. Those arrested face accusations of technological fraud, money laundering and criminal organization, all as a result of an investigation that began in October 2023 following several allegations of internet fraud throughout the State.

Local and municipal reactions

The mayor of Manlleu, Arnau Rovira, praised the work of the police forces and highlighted the importance of the collaboration of the Local Police in the operation. In response to residents’ complaints about coexistence problems with occupied flats, the mayor has assured that the City Council is working to address this issue, despite disassociating it from this Wednesday’s operation.

The Councilor for Governance and first deputy mayor of Manlleu, Lluïsa Bautista, has expressed understanding towards the concerns of the residents and has highlighted the efforts of the city council to address multiple recidivism. He reported that four expulsions of multi-recidivists had been carried out and that meetings had been held with the Vic prosecutor to address this problem.
