Born in California in 1938, Richard Serra is recognized worldwide for working with monumental steel pieces. He studied in Paris and settled in New York during the 60s, when he published a manifesto and created one of his most important works, ‘One ton prop (House of Cards)’. It should be noted that the sculpture ‘Equal-Parallel-Guernica-Bengazi’, which Serra had created for the inauguration of the Museu Nacional Center d’Art Reina Sofia in Madrid in 1986, was considered lost in 2006. However, the ‘artist created a free duplicate that can be seen in the museum’s permanent exhibition since 2009.
