The Government decides not to extend the curfew

The Government of Catalonia has announced that it will not extend the curfew from January 21. According to the spokeswoman for the Catalan executive, Patrícia Plaja, although the numbers of contagions continue to be worrying, there is a slowdown and signs of future improvement. This has led to the decision not to extend this restrictive measure.

Restrictions that will remain

Although the curfew will end, the Government has decided to maintain other restrictions such as the closure of nightlife and gatherings of more than 10 people. These measures will be maintained, for the time being, in order to control the spread of the virus and prevent an increase in infections.

An invasive but effective measure

The spokeswoman for the Government has emphasized that the curfew has been an invasive but effective measure to reduce mobility and interaction at a complicated time of the pandemic. However, it has been reiterated that the guard cannot be lowered and the other restrictions must be continued to control the situation.

No calendar for the rest of the measures

As for the rest of the restrictions, such as limitations on social gatherings or the use of the covid passport, the Government has not established a timetable for their withdrawal. Decisions will be made based on the evolution of the pandemic and the recommendations of public health experts will be listened to.

No date set for the reopening of nightlife

As for nightlife, there is still no set date for its reopening. The Government will continue to analyze the pandemic data and listen to experts to determine when it will be possible to relax this restriction and allow the reopening of nightlife establishments.
