Improvement in police service and protocols
The Local Police has taken the decision to include body cameras in their uniforms with the aim of recording the actions of the officers during their service. This new technology will make it possible to analyze and review the outputs of the police force, thus improving the established protocols.
The benefits of body cameras
The use of body cameras is an increasingly common practice in the various security forces. In addition to serving as evidence in cases of contrasting different versions, they also provide security for officers and reduce the aggressiveness of offenders, according to several studies.
Use in different situations
This new technology will play an important role in various situations. For example, in cases of gender violence, fights or assaults, body cameras will serve as objective evidence. They will also be useful for police units operating at night.
Investment in technology and equipment
The City Council has earmarked almost 7,000 euros from its remaining treasury to acquire the five body cameras. In addition, the purchase of pistols worth 6,000 euros and other equipment such as lockers for the officers’ clothing, an armorer and radio stations has been planned with a total cost of nearly 40,000 euros.
Road education and road safety
Within the same package of acquisitions, the Government department has invested 20,000 euros in the acquisition of a park to carry out road education activities. This new addition will make it possible to promote road education days in Sóller, facilitating workshops and talks in the educational centers of the Valley.
