The Mortgage Affected Platform occupies the Can Ricard building

Today, the Mortgage Affected Platform (PAH) occupied the reception of the Can Ricard building, where the Social Services of the Sant Feliu City Council are located. With posters hanging on the walls, the PAH has expressed its complaints about the operation of the Social Services and has asked for a change in the way they are managed.

The PAH denounces the ‘racist’ dynamics of the Social Services

Before the occupation action, the PAH disseminated a manifesto through social networks entitled ‘Anti Social Services’, where it denounced the ‘racist’ practices of the Social Services and demanded that the City Council establish a collective agreement collaboration with the PAH. This agreement would recognize the PAH as a valid interlocutor and establish monthly meetings to deal with housing problems in Sant Feliu.

The PAH calls for changes in the operation of Social Services

During the occupation of Can Ricard, PAH representatives met with Jaume Manyoses, Councilor for Housing, and Iván Martín, Councilor for Social Services, to express their demands. The PAH not only asks for meetings, but also wants to question and change the current functioning of the Social Services of the Sant Feliu City Council. According to the PAH, this action is an accumulation of grievances.

The PAH criticizes discrimination in Social Services

Manolo Cobos, spokesperson for the PAH, assures that people who go to the Social Services to ask for help with housing or food receive discriminatory answers. Cobos emphasizes that the PAH’s fight is not against Social Services workers, but against the lack of resources and the malfunctioning of services, which cause situations that violate people’s rights.

The PAH claims to be recognized as a valid interlocutor

The PAH asks the Sant Feliu City Council to recognize its platform as a valid interlocutor between the affected people and the City Council. It also calls for the convening of monthly meetings and the creation of an emergency social care service. According to the PAH, these demands have already been presented to the municipal government, but have not yet received a response.

Meeting to establish action frameworks

After the occupation of Can Ricard, Laura Bonilla, coordinator of the Social Services area, undertook to meet councilors Jaume Manyoses and Iván Martín with the PAH to establish frameworks for action. This meeting is scheduled for next Wednesday, April 3. Bonilla emphasizes that questioning things is a way to improve them.

PAH does not rule out future actions

The PAH has temporarily abandoned the occupation of Can Ricard, but does not rule out future actions if there are no changes in the functioning of the Social Services of Sant Feliu.
