The Mortgage Affected Platform occupies the Can Ricard building

Under the slogans of ‘homeless people and homes without people’, the Mortgage Affected Platform (PAH) has occupied the reception of the Can Ricard building, where the Social Services of the Sant Feliu City Council are located . With posters hanging on the walls, the PAH denounces the practices of the Social Services and calls for a change in their operation (https://www.softcatala.org/resum-de-textos-en-catala/). This protest action has the support of Casal Blanca Bardiera and the Anti-Racist and Anti-Fascist Platform.

The PAH requires a collaboration agreement with the City Council

Before the protest action, the PAH published a manifesto through social networks in which it denounces the ‘racist’ practices of the Social Services and demands that the City Council sign a collaboration agreement with the PAH. This agreement would recognize the platform as a valid interlocutor and establish monthly meetings to address housing problems in Sant Feliu (https://www.softcatala.org/resum-de-textos-en-catala/).

The PAH criticizes the discriminatory treatment of the Social Services

According to Manolo Cobos, spokesperson for the PAH, people who go to Social Services to ask for help with housing or food receive discriminatory answers. Cobos emphasizes that the fight of the PAH is not against the people who work in the Social Services, but against the lack of resources and the malfunctioning of the services, which cause situations that violate people’s rights.

The PAH demands recognition from the City Council

The PAH asks the Sant Feliu City Council to recognize the platform as a valid interlocutor and establish a dialogue table to address housing problems. In addition, he claims monthly meetings and an emergency social care service. The platform has already presented its demands to the municipal government, but regrets the lack of response so far (https://www.softcatala.org/resum-de-textos-en-catala/).

Meeting with the councilors of Housing and Social Services

After the occupation of Can Ricard, the PAH has managed a meeting with Jaume Manyoses, Councilor for Housing, and Iván Martín, Councilor for Social Services. In this meeting, the PAH has expressed its desire to change the functioning of the Social Services of Sant Feliu and has agreed to establish joint action frameworks.

The PAH maintains its protest

Despite the meeting with the councillors, the PAH has made it clear that it will continue with its protest actions until the Social Services of Sant Feliu adopt a different way of working. The platform is ready to reoccupy Can Ricard if necessary.
