A look at La Funcional Teatre’s productions
The Figueres company La Funcional Teatre presents, during the months of April and May, two theatrical works that form a diptych: Dialegs de carmelites and Un cor normal. These works, separated by almost two centuries in time and space, offer an opportunity to reflect on human resilience, the strength of the collective, hope and love.

The diptych, which includes the works Dialogues of Carmelites and A Normal Heart, is a representation of human resilience in the face of adversity. This proposal, directed by Josep Maria Cortada, offers a unique vision that highlights the strength of the actors and actresses, as well as the technical team, in an unconventional format for the company.
Details of the works
Dialogues of Carmelites
The first work, Dialogues of Carmelites, is inspired by a true story of a group of cloistered Carmelites during the French Revolution. This choral work, which premieres on Friday, April 12 at the Casino Menestral, offers a unique vision of a story rarely represented in theater. Josep Maria Cortada’s personal adaptation brings a cinematic feel to this work, raising the characters’ reasons and points of view in an unconventional way.
A normal heart
The second play, A Normal Heart, written by Larry Kramer, focuses on the gay community in the early 1980s. Through this play, resilience and unconventional relationships within this community are highlighted. Performances of these works offer different stage treatments, although they share the central theme of human resilience.
Parallel events and performances
In addition to the theatrical performances, La Funcional Teatre has organized a set of parallel events that complement the theme of the plays. These events include panel discussions, film screenings and post-function talks, all of which are designed to enrich the viewers’ experience and promote reflection on the themes addressed in the works.
