A new color for every season
Each season of the Portaceli era at the helm of TNC has had a different corporate color. In the 2021-2022 season it was Klein blue, in 2022-2023 it was moss green and in 2023-2024 it was wild strawberry. Now, the main color is yellow, a vivid and striking color that is not associated with pro-independence demonstrations or the malaise attributed to Molière’s death. The goal is that at the end of Portaceli’s term, a season full of success and joy can be celebrated.
Season presentation
The seasonal presentation at the TNC follows a common script. We take stock of the season that is ending, introduce the next season, take a family photo, toast and everyone goes home. This event is often held in the TNC Painting Workshop, a space that has become an important part of the theater. The balance of the season that is ending is very positive, with a high occupancy, more than 126,500 spectators and a 25% young audience. TNC has managed to reach a younger and more diverse audience, and this is a huge milestone for the team.
The schedule for the 2024-2025 season
The TNC’s 2024-2025 season will have as its theme or line of discourse ‘The Margins’. This programming will include shows that highlight historically silenced minorities and majorities, such as women. The aim is to claim marginality and non-conformism from the national theatre. The Sala Gran will host shows such as a musical created in Catalan, the theatrical adaptation of Anna Karenina by Leo Tolstoy, the play L’aranya by Àngel Guimerà and the new text by Victoria Szpunberg, La tercera fuga. In the Sala Petita, productions such as You, the witches, Gola, Massa brillant and Anatomia d’un suícidi will be performed. In the Sala Tallers you can see more groundbreaking proposals, family theater and dance. There will also be activities in the Painting Workshop, which has become an important space for proposals close to the public.
Featured shows
The new TNC season will include outstanding shows such as the premiere of the play Marie, la roja directed by Ester Villamor and starring Carlota Olcina, the visit of the creator Angélica Liddell with the show Blixen, Barcelona Calling Palestina and other proposals from theatre, dance and music. Special attention will also be given to musicals in Catalan, with the aim of giving the public in Catalonia more options in this genre.
A promising future
With a season full of diversity and quality, the TNC hopes to continue to attract a wide and loyal audience. Despite the limited budgets, the hope remains that investment in culture can be increased and that the national theater will continue to be a point of reference on the Catalan and international scene.
