‘Cerca del mar’ by Cia Cos de Lletra
It is a play created and produced by the company Cos de Lletra, with text and interpretation by Ruth Vilar and direction by Salva Artesero. It is a show for adult audiences, with a duration of 65 minutes and in Spanish.
Young Irene talks to us. It is addressed to several people. His life depends on them. With each of these brief exchanges of words he shows us a tiny part of his sorrow. Cerca del mar is the succession of these sober, brave and sensitive monologues. Through them, we sense the impending tragedy and see its consequences.
Cerca del mar is based on a real case that happened at the beginning of the 20th century. Ruth Vilar, author and actress of the play, spent two years locating and consulting all available documentary sources. The textual creation focuses on the human and vulnerable face of the characters and records the social implications of a drama that is still too frequent: extreme violence within the family.
