New business decline: A critical look

Catalonia has experienced a drop in the creation of companies during the month of June, with a total of 1,770 new commercial companies registered. This figure represents a 9.5% decline compared to the same month last year, a sign that the current economic landscape remains challenging.

Dissolutions also show a decline

Despite the decline in business creation, the good news is that dissolutions have fallen back slightly. Only 125 companies closed their doors, which represents 2.3% less than a year ago. This indicates that, despite the difficulties, some businesses have found ways to survive.

Economic impact of new initiatives

The companies that started their activity in June have generated an economic contribution that exceeds 69.2 million euros, 5.22% less than last year. This suggests that although fewer businesses are formed, those that do bring higher average values.

Details on dissolutions

Of the closures, 86 were voluntary, 15 resulted from merger or acquisition processes, and 24 closed for other reasons. This diversity in the causes of dissolution reflects a complicated business environment.

Capital Expansions: A Daunting Outlook

Capital increases have also suffered a significant decline, with 424 companies increasing their capital during June, 16.2% less than the previous year. This is particularly worrying, as the total amount of invested capital has fallen by 50%, reaching €183.08 million.

Sectoralization of new initiatives

Within the panorama of new creations, trade stands out as the most active sector, with 18.1% of the total of new companies. The finance and insurance sector follows closely behind at nearly 17%, while construction rounds out the trio at 13.7%.

Dissolutions by sector

Interestingly, the same sectors that lead the new creations are also the ones that experience the most dissolutions. Commerce, construction and the real estate, financial and insurance sectors lead the closing figures, with 22%, 15.7% and 12.6% respectively.

Reflections on the business future

The report of the National Institute of Statistics reveals that, despite the current scenario, the dynamism in the creation and dissolution of companies may be a reflection of the resilience of the Catalan business fabric. It is crucial that entrepreneurs and investors find ways to adapt to changing conditions to ensure a more stable and prosperous future.
