Divendres: Reading Aloud Contest
Last Friday and Saturday, two events took place on the English Time calendar, a working group made up of English language teachers from the region, in collaboration with the Alt Empordà Educational Service. Specifically, on Friday, the first edition of the Reading Aloud Contest was inaugurated, inspired by the Reading Aloud contest.
The debut of this event took place in the theater of the Narcís Monturiol high school. Up to 11 regional educational centers took part in this competition, each of them represented by a team made up of 3 4th grade ESO students. In other words, a total of 33 teenage finalists passed the stage, who read in front of a jury that evaluated their diction, interpretation, rhythm and reading as a team. The winners were Laia DeCaprio Ballester, Leonora Doolard and Roumayssae Taouil Idrissi, from the Illa de Rhodes Institute. In second place, and also with a prize, the distinguished were Zaynab Dahou, Michael Alexander Soriano Sánchez and Sara El Hmidi l’Harrak, from the Cendrassos Institute.
Saturday: Oral Contest
The following day, in the Narcís Monturiol assembly hall, the 2nd and 3rd ESO finalists of the seventh edition of the Oral Contest gathered, a competition that consists of creating videos in English reproducing a situation everyday This year, the chosen theme: the fight against social stereotypes and gender prejudices. In recent years, it is common for the English Time team to propose inter-centre activities dedicated to 8M. Both in 2nd and 3rd ESO, Vilafant’s videos were the best rated and their creators were: Alba Bruñol, Joana Manzanera, Jaume Cano, Júlia Macias and Carlota Ayats (2nd ESO) and Ona Moreno , Griselda Font, Ester Robles and Júlia Martínez (3rd grade).
Awards and collaborations
On Friday, the prizes were gift vouchers to be spent at bookstores in the city, while those on Saturday were vouchers to be spent at establishments affiliated to Comerç Figueres. All the finalists, as usual, received a corporate gift from the English Time and merchandising from Oxford and Burlington publishers. In addition, it should be noted that Figueres Escena collaborated in both events with lots of tickets that were raffled.
