Vendrell City Council promotes a unique candidacy
The Vendrell Town Council presents at the ordinary plenary session in January the agreement to formalize its aspiration to be recognized as the nerve center of Traditional Catalan Dance in 2026. This initiative’s main objective is to expand the projection and the prestige of this form of cultural expression, as well as promoting and spreading the artistic wealth of the designated municipality.
Support from sardanist and cultural organizations
Several entities such as Foment Sardanista Vendrellenc and Dansaires del Penedès have actively collaborated in the preservation of traditional Catalan dance in Vendrell, organizing ballads and concerts that have kept this cherished tradition alive. The town’s history and Sardanista culture are key factors that support the solidity of this candidacy.
The support of representative personalities
The councilor responsible for Culture and Heritage, Silvia Vaquero, has highlighted the cultural and popular importance of traditional Catalan dance, underlining its special symbolism and the deep roots it has in Vendrell. In addition, he recalled the remarkable contributions of figures such as Pau Casals and Àngel Guimerà to the culture of traditional dance.
An event with the support of several entities
The entities Foment Sardanista Vendrellenc, Dansaires del Penedès and the Colla Sardanista de La Lira Vendrellenca have been honored to participate in the presentation of this candidacy, trusting that it will promote a renewed activity of traditional dance in Vendrell and place the locality as a reference in the world of this cultural manifestation.
