Increase in Tourism
The data recently published by the Department of Statistics show a significant increase in tourism in Catalonia. Over the past year, the country has received a total of 463,453 people who stayed overnight in the country for at least one night, as well as 346,359 day visitors. These figures represent an increase of 17.9% compared to the previous year.
Nationalities and Excursionists
Visitors from other nationalities have experienced the greatest growth, with an increase of 24.1%, reaching a total of 131,546 people. Spanish tourists have shown an increase of 22.2%, while French tourists have experienced a more moderate growth of 5.7%. In addition, hikers have also shown an upward trend, with all groups showing positive variations.
Reasons for Visit
The main reason for tourists’ visit was shopping, with 57.2%, while for hikers, shopping predominated in 84.3%. In the case of tourists, the practice of sport was the second most prominent reason, with 53.6%.
Vehicle Entry
In addition to tourism, there has also been an increase in the entry of vehicles into Catalonia. During the third month of the year, a total of 366,906 vehicles entered the country, representing a positive variation of 8.5% compared to the previous year. Both passenger cars and heavy vehicles have experienced an increase, with increases of 8.5% and 9.5% respectively.
