The campsites wecamp Santa Cristina, wecamp Cadaqués and wecamp Cala Montgó obtain the Biosphere seal

These three campsites in l’Escala have achieved Biosphere certification, which recognizes their respect for the environment and their continuous improvement in the field of sustainability. They announced this in a press release, where they explained that they are part of the Girona Camping Association, which for years has been working to make the sector a benchmark in reducing the carbon footprint and effective management of water resources. The Biosphere seal is voluntary and is awarded by the Institute of Responsible Tourism (ITR), an independent entity that promotes sustainability actions and programs in the tourism industry.

A commitment to people and the planet

“From wecamp we want to contribute to the development of an economy that is more conscious and careful with people and the planet. We promote sustainable tourism within the framework of the ODS 2030, promoted by the United Nations, and which we take on as our own challenges and part of our essence. Following this line, we have as a criterion to certify all our establishments with the Biosphere certification for campsites, which endorse the initiatives carried out in this regard by all the people who are part of the group”, declared Albert Montesinos, CEO of wecamp .

Actions aimed at sustainability and efficiency

The three Girona campsites that have obtained Biosphere certification aim for sustainability and water resource efficiency in all their actions. Their priority for this 2024 is to hire renewable energy in the three establishments. In addition, they use the installation of LED lights, timers and sensors in common areas, among other measures. The products, services and experiences they offer promote sustainability, knowledge and respectful enjoyment of the environment. Bet on technology and new innovative methods that improve the customer experience and at the same time contribute to saving or better use of resources and information, through Apps and QR codes. On the other hand, they carry out sustainable management of the community and its infrastructures in a way that contributes to the preservation of destiny. They stimulate participation in conservation and ecosystem protection activities, and encourage knowledge and learning in sustainable practices among the people who make up the wecamp team and among customers. In addition, they choose to consume resources that generate less environmental impact and that are recyclable.

Support for entrepreneurship and local development

They also support entrepreneurship and local development through the consumption of local products and services; they bet on the recruitment of local talent; and favor the elimination of barriers that limit the integration of people for reasons of gender, origin or religion, sexual orientation, economic situation or other condition.

A specific plan to reduce the carbon footprint and use natural materials

Wecamp, in collaboration with a team of architects and experts in energy efficiency, has designed a specific plan to make the most of local resources, reduce as much as possible the carbon footprint, and use modern, biodegradable and natural materials like the solid salón. In addition, the three campsites promote selective collection and have a fleet of electric vehicles.

Other Girona campsites that also have Biosphere certification

Before the wecamp Santa Cristina, wecamp Cadaqués and wecamp Cala Montgó campsites, two other Girona campsites, the Begur and Vidrà campsites, which also belong to the Association, had obtained the prestigious Biosphere certification.
