Meetings to get financial support
The people responsible for the association, with its president at the head, Sònia Yebra, at the same time representative of the commercial sector in Andorra Turisme, and the director-manager of the employers’ association, Iago Andreu, as its spokesperson, have held several meetings, who already come from far away, to try to collect the money they think is necessary. At the very least, they would have met with the Minister of Tourism and Commerce, Jordi Torres, and with leaders of the communes of Andorra la Vella and Escaldes, parishes through which the route that would be included in the street would pass.
The minister would have made it clear that the budget for this 2024 is completely closed and would have placed the commercial association to ‘collar’ the parish administrations. Formally, both Andorra la Vella and Escaldes are studying the request. But the two corporations consider the amount requested to be completely exorbitant and believe to a large extent that with what is already contributed, in fact, to the association, they should have enough to take the appropriate actions. And they don’t transcend much either.
Financing objectives
With the 300,000 euros, they would like to organize a level street with a manifesto on gay pride and, especially, a concert with some of the top icons, especially musical ones, of the LGTBIQ+ movement. The business entity believes that turning Andorra towards a ‘gay-friendly’ position can be a good thing, taking into account the experience of other nearby places and the disbursement of money made by the aforementioned group, among which there are people of very high purchasing power that it is considered that if they turned Andorra into a haven for their fun and leisure activities, they could represent a good injection of money for the country’s tourism and commercial sector.
Meetings with Political Formations
The Association of Merchants of the Central Axis is also meeting with political formations to convey their grievances. For example, this Wednesday representatives of the entity, with the aforementioned Andreu and Yebra at the head, met with representatives of Democrats to discuss aspects such as the tourism and commercial strategy, as well as aspects linked to the case of workers in the sector and how to deal with the swing between high and low seasons.
