The festival of the Three Tombs of Moià turns forty years old

The town of Moianès celebrated this Sunday its traditional festival of the Three Tombs, which this year reached its fortieth edition. The weather, almost summer, has encouraged many people to go out and enjoy the cavalcade of animals and vehicles that has traveled through the center of the town.

The events before the party

The party began last Wednesday, January 17, when the solemn mass was celebrated in honor of Sant Antoni Abbot, the patron saint of animals. In this ceremony, the ex-flag bearers, administrators and partners of the party were remembered. On Saturday, January 20, the flag was handed over to the new flag bearer for 2024, Rosalia Closas, who was accompanied by administrators and former flag bearers. Afterwards, an event was held at the Town Hall where the Traginera d’Honor was presented to Rut Montsech Gasca, a Moian woman who won a European medal.

On the same Saturday afternoon, the administrators of Sant Antoni Abat were serenaded to announce the Feast of the Three Tombs. Afterwards, a popular sausage sizzle was organized in Plaça Major, where many people gathered.

The Cavalcade of the Three Tombs

This Sunday morning, the main events of the party took place, with the cavalcade that had the participation of the municipal band of the Moià School of Music, the Pollo, the town’s graller group, and all kinds of of animals and vehicles, such as oxen, carts, tartans, horses, mules, ponies and tractors, among others. The cavalcade made three rounds of the town, and in each one a blessing was given to the animals and vehicles, and also to the pets that approached the Plaza Mayor. In the third tomb, the short Contrapás de Moià was danced, a typical dance of the locality.
