Join us on this adventure and let yourself be surprised by the history, nature and culture of this place.
The castle of Peracense, a medieval fortress with a lot of history
The main attraction of Peracense is its castle, a medieval fortress that is located on a rocky cliff, dominating the landscape. The castle was built between the 12th and 14th centuries, in a context of conflicts between the kingdoms of Castile and Aragon, and between the manors of Albarrasí, Molina d’Aragon and the Community of Daroca. The castle had great strategic and military importance, and was subject to several extensions and reforms over the years. The castle passed into the hands of the Comunitat d’Aldees de Daroca, which turned it into a prison, and suffered a period of degradation and oblivion. In the 19th century, during the First Carline War, the castle was occupied by a liberal military contingent, which adapted it for the needs of artillery. These interventions altered the original structure of the castle and caused the destruction of some of its interior elements. Thanks to the archaeological excavations, it has been possible to recover many objects and witnesses from the different periods of the castle, from the 13th to the 19th centuries.
