An unexpected gastronomic relationship
If the castles had a direct relationship with any food, it would clearly be calçots, because Valls is the cradle of the castle world and of this meal that is so familiar to us. But there is another food that is often mistakenly associated with castles: anchovies. Many people believe that the boy or girl who climbs to the top of a castle is called an ‘anchoveta’ and, although it would be very funny, it is not so. The correct name is ‘enxaneta’.
The most characteristic gesture
The little girl climbs to the top of the castle and, when she gets there, raises her arm before going down the other side. This gesture of raising the arm is called ‘fer l’aleta’ and is the most characteristic gesture of the casteller world. Even so, all other positions in the castle have names. Do you know them? Do you know what the pineapple, the log or the knob above is? Did you know that the smallest child who climbs the castle is not the princess? Watch the video and find out!
