The housing situation in Catalonia

The housing crisis is one of the most important problems affecting Catalonia and Spain. According to the latest data from the Consumer Price Index (CPI), apartment prices have increased by 4.7% compared to the previous year. This figure has contributed to a general increase in the CPI of 3.6% in the month of June. However, compared to the previous month, prices have remained stable with only a 0.5% increase.

Price variation by sector

The sectors that have experienced a greater increase in prices in Catalonia during the month of June are housing and hotels, cafes and restaurants, with an increase of 4.7%. A smaller increase was also observed in other goods and services, alcoholic beverages and tobacco, and food and non-alcoholic beverages. On the other hand, prices for transport, leisure and culture, education, medicine, clothing and footwear, clothing and communications have experienced more moderate growth.

Comparison with the state average

The interannual rate of the CPI in Catalonia has been above the national average. The demarcations with a greater interannual variation of the CPI are Lleida, Barcelona, ​​Tarragona and Girona. Compared to the previous month, prices have increased by 0.7% in Lleida, 0.6% in Girona and 0.5% in Barcelona and Tarragona.

Situation in Spain

At state level, the interannual CPI stood at 3.4%, one tenth less than the previous month. The prices of fuels, oils and fats, and food and non-alcoholic beverages have experienced a reduction compared to the previous year. In addition, prices in Catalonia have been slightly higher than the national average.
