The rise of labor platforms

In recent years, the way people have accessed employment has changed dramatically with the emergence of digital platforms. Through applications and websites, professionals offer their services to clients who can make orders with a simple click, transforming the labor dynamics and opening the door to new forms of precariousness.

Automation and its influence

The operation of these platforms is based on algorithms that regulate labor operations, such as the fixation of prices for transport services or the distribution of tasks between workers. This system can lead to dehumanization of labor relations, as workers are often not part of the official structure of the company.

The suffocation of the platform economy

The so -called platform economy has found a strong root in sectors such as food distribution and transport, but has recently begun to extend to cleaning and home care services. According to the figures of Working Commissions, Spain ranks fifth in terms of presence of labor platforms, surpassed only by countries like Ireland and France.

The reality of the platform workers

Service riders like Glovo and Uber Eats are perhaps the most visible examples of this model, but they are not the only ones. Domestic and care workers are also affected by these new labor dynamics. Companies like Clintu, Mypoppins and Cuideo operate under the same principle of assignment of orders through digital applications.

Dialogue about the future work

In a special episode of the Podcast ‘The Critic Podcast’, presented by journalist Laura Aznar, the implications of this new labor landscape are explored. With the participation of Franz Morales, by CCOO Catalunya, and Fany Galeas, a specialist in home workers, discusses the repercussions of the digital economy on labor rights and the need for regulation.

Final reflections on digital economy

As the platform economy continues to grow, it is crucial to establish measures to protect the rights of workers. Conversation on the future of work must focus not only on efficiency and flexibility, but also on dignity and work safety.
