The paradoxe of the tariffs: a hidden cost to the citizen

by PREMIUM.CAT

A misleading justification

With a tone that seeks empathy and serious expression, we are informed that the increase in tariffs will increase prices. The underlying idea is clear: “If we want to protect our industry, citizens will have to take on the cost.” This narrative, however, deserves a deep review.

A simple solution

Imagining a scenario where the tariffs increase, it would be reasonable for VAT to be reduced in the same proportion. In this way, financial weight would not fall on the shoulders of consumers. It is a simple mathematical operation that, surprisingly, is systematically dismissed.

The reality of government

If this measure does not apply, what happens is that the state benefits from the situation. Citizens see how their costs increase, while the Government is happy to increase their income, presenting it as a necessary measure for the well-being of society.

The doubt about taxes

There is a belief shared by both progressive and conservative sectors that taxes are needed to guarantee services. In theory, this idea is valid; But in practice it is observed that bureaucracy becomes heavier and more inefficient.

A system that is Col·lapssa

With the increase in taxes, public services seem to deteriorate. Health is in a critical situation, schools are struggling to maintain quality and social services are insufficient. And yet, the system is never blamed, but external factors.

The cost of tax pressure

In Spain, fiscal pressure has reached alarming levels, but the answer is not an improvement in the quality of the service. Instead, a system is established where public administration operates without accounting, as leaders prefer not to alter a system that can be vindictive.

The families and the future

Current policy penalizes families with children, who are essential for the sustainable future of society. In addition, birth aid aids are notably lower than the European average, while citizens are punished for not recycling properly.

A new approach needed

It is time to rethink the relationship between state and civil society. Less dependence on the state and more citizen initiative. If the tariffs have to climb, the VAT goes down at the same time, or maybe it is time to stop and demand radical changes. Responsibility should not only fall on citizens.
