The rapprochement between the Government and Junts
The post-convergents accuse the Executive of not wanting to “move after yesterday’s meeting”.
Differences in tax proposals
The Government and Junts resumed the negotiation of the budgets yesterday after weeks of paralysis, but the differences in the fiscal proposals mean that an agreement is distant.
In particular, Junts calls for the abolition of inheritance tax, while the Government rejects this proposal.
Participants in the negotiation
On behalf of the Government, the usual negotiators, Núria Cuenca, Marc Ramentol and Josep Maria Aguirre, attended, accompanied by Vice-Councilor Sergi Sabrià. On behalf of Junts, there were the parliamentary spokesperson Mònica Sales, and the deputies Joan Canadell and Jordi Munell.
The impact of inheritance tax
The Government has expressed its opposition to Junts’ tax proposals, arguing that the abolition of inheritance tax would have a negative impact of 1,200 million euros on the coffers of the Generalitat.
In addition to the economic aspects, the Government considers that the inheritance tax is a symbol that distinguishes a progressive executive from one that is not.
Lack of progress and joint decision
Junts sources claim that there has been no progress in the negotiations and accuse the Government of not wanting to move. They also emphasize that the inheritance bonus is a red line for them and that they will not give their votes in exchange for anything.
The management of Junts will meet on Monday to make the final decision on whether or not to present a full amendment against the accounts.
