by PREMIUM.CAT

Introduction

Sant Feliu de Llobregat is a city that welcomes people of more than 90 different nationalities, with great cultural diversity and life experiences. This diversity is a reflection of the migration and globalization that characterizes today’s world. In this article, we will explore the stories of several migrant women who have found in Sant Feliu a new place to settle and build a better future for themselves and their families.

Life stories

Natàlia Rodríguez, Kelly Panduro, Susana Buitrago and Estela Morales are some of the women who have arrived in Sant Feliu de Llobregat in recent years. Each of them has lived a unique migration experience and has overcome different challenges to adapt to the new culture and find their place in this welcoming city.

The photojournalist Raül Clemente has captured their stories in a video titled ‘Voices of Migrant Women in Sant Feliu de Llobregat’. This project, recently presented in the Aula de Cultura of Ateneu Santfeliuenc, allows us to know first-hand their experiences, feelings and future perspectives.

Experiences and perspectives

In the video, the women share their experiences from the time they left their countries of origin to their arrival in Sant Feliu. They explain the challenges they have had to overcome, their current situations and their hopes for the future. The different settings of the city, such as Plaça de la Solidaritat, Plaça Lluís Companys and Parc Nadal, serve as a backdrop for his reflections.

The Councilor for Solidarity and Twinning, Núria Carrera, has highlighted the importance of the voices of these migrant women and their struggle to adapt and thrive in a new society. Mayor Lourdes Borrell has claimed Sant Feliu as a welcoming city that values diversity and makes everyone feel part of the community.

Raül Clemente, photojournalist and author of the video, explained the process of creating the piece and thanked the courage of the women who participated in the project. This video is a testimony to the strength and resilience of migrant women and an opportunity to know and understand their experiences.

A growing community

Some of the protagonists of the video have arrived in Sant Feliu in the last two years, while others have been living in this city for more than two decades. All of them emphasize the importance of being part of a welcoming and supportive community that has helped them integrate and feel at home.

Migrant women have found support and understanding in other community members, who have shared their own experiences and offered guidance and support in the adaptation process. This support network is essential for migrant women, as it allows them to overcome obstacles and build a new life in an unfamiliar environment.

Reflections and challenges

During the presentation of the video, the women had the opportunity to reflect on their migration experience and share their concerns and challenges. They have highlighted the importance of receiving clear and accurate information from the administrations, as they often find it difficult to know their rights and available resources.

The women also emphasized the importance of learning the Catalan language and culture as a tool for integration and full participation in the life of the city. They have positively evaluated the Catalan courses and other training activities that have allowed them to get to know their new home better and establish links with other members of the community.

An opportunity for debate

After the screening of the video, a round table was held with the participation of the activist Aurea Ayón, former councilwoman Fátima Taleb and facilitator Amal Ait Blal. In this debate, topics such as racialized feminism, religious freedom and interculturality have been addressed, highlighting the importance of diversity and respect in a plural and inclusive society.

conclusion

The project ‘Voices of migrant women in Sant Feliu de Llobregat’ shows us the richness and diversity of the city, as well as the stories of overcoming and resilience of migrant women. These voices remind us of the importance of solidarity, understanding and equality in building a fairer and more inclusive society for everyone.
