Nurses union Satse Catalunya demands better protocols and safety measures
The nurses’ union Satse Catalunya has asked for adequate protocols and security measures to protect health professionals working in Catalan prisons. This demand arises after the tragic death of a worker at Mas d’Enric, caused by an intern last March 13. The union has shown itself in favor of the demands of the officials of the penitentiary centers and has expressed its support to all prison staff who constantly work at high risk and without adequate protection.
Lack of staff and collaboration between Justice and Health
The union has highlighted the lack of sufficient staff to guarantee security inside the penitentiary centers and has stressed the need for the Departments of Justice and Health to work together to find an effective solution. He also recalled that the health staff of Catalan prisons depend on the Catalan Institute of Health (ICS) and pointed out their responsibility to make visible the danger and exposure to physical damage that these professionals suffer during their work.

The union has held meetings with ICS officials to address this issue and seek an effective solution to the need for greater protection for prison health professionals.
