The Start of a New Course: Key Dates
The time to return to the classroom is fast approaching. In Catalonia, after a few years with changes to the start of the school year, the Generalitat has decided to resume the traditional calendar, with classes starting at the beginning of September. Below are the significant dates for the 2024-2025 school year.
Start Dates for Each Educational Level
The 9th of September will mark the beginning of classes for the little ones: early childhood education (0-3 years), rural schools and nursery schools of the Generalitat, as well as for early childhood education (3-6 years), primary, Education Compulsory Secondary (ESO) and basic degree training cycles.
On the other hand, September 12 will be the day when high school students and intermediate and higher vocational students will start their classes, along with specialization courses and job placement programs.
End of the Course and Start of the Summer Holidays
The school year will come to an end on 20 June 2025, with the summer holidays starting on 21 June. This will apply to early childhood education, primary education, ESO, first year of high school and basic vocational training.
Holidays and Holidays: Moments of Rest
The Christmas holidays will run from December 21, 2024 to January 7, 2025, both days included. On the other hand, Easter will be enjoyed from April 12 to 21, 2025.
Flexibility in the School Calendar
The school calendar is coordinated with Catalonia’s public holidays for the years 2024 and 2025, in addition to allowing each council to set two local public holidays. If these days coincide with a non-school day, educational institutions can adjust their calendar.
Each educational center has the possibility of establishing four free days throughout the course, which must be distributed among the three terms and cannot coincide with the beginning or end of the course, nor with the Christmas holidays or Easter This measure requires prior communication and, in exceptional situations, the territorial services can authorize these days to be consecutive within the same quarter with the approval of the school board.
