The context of the current era
We are in a moment of very important epochal change for the apostolic and episcopal church. Pastors must prepare adequately to face the challenges and opportunities that this change brings. This was expressed by Cardinal Joan Josep Omella, in a meeting with the Spanish bishops and Pope Francis, in which the training of future priestesses was discussed.
The importance of training
The Spanish bishops received a working document from the Dicastery for the Clergy of the Holy See, which complemented their own reflections on the training of future pastors. This training must be unique, comprehensive, community and missionary (https://www.softcatala.org/resum-de-textos-en-catala/). It is essential that pastors are well prepared to accompany and guide their communities in this new era.
Possible changes in the seminars
During the meeting, the possibility of regrouping the seminars was discussed, since the union can bring strength and synergies. This issue is particularly relevant in Catalonia, where there are several seminaries, such as the Major Interdiocesan Seminary and the Conciliar Seminary of Barcelona. It is important to analyze this possibility and make the right decisions to guarantee quality training for future pastors.
Seminar Day
On March 17, Seminary Day is celebrated, a day in which the whole church is invited to pray for vocations and to support seminarians. It is a moment to remember the importance of training authentic pastors for our time.
