A study reveals the presence of pigeons in Manlleu

Manlleu City Council has carried out an exhaustive study on the pigeon population in the city. This work, carried out by the company specialized in the control of bird populations, Ambiens, has revealed interesting data about these birds so present in the municipality.

Surprising facts about the pigeon population

According to the study, there are currently approximately 2,700 pigeons in Manlleu. This figure is considerably high when compared to the natural population of birds, which is estimated to be around 500 individuals. This indicates that the pigeon population has experienced significant growth in recent years.

Habitats and feeding of pigeons

The study has also identified the places where pigeons find food in the city. The spots most frequented by pigeons are Paseo del Ter, the Erm neighborhood and Plaça Sant Antoni de Padua. These spaces provide the pigeons with the food they need to survive.

Proposals for the management of the pigeon population

The study has proposed five comprehensive lines of action to improve the management of the pigeon population in Manlleu. Some of the proposals include reducing the amount of food given to them, closing existing colonies and empowering pigeon lofts to manage breeding. It is also recommended to replace real eggs with plastic eggs and carry out controlled captures of pigeons.
