Reduction of Light Pollution
Four towns in Vall Fosca have launched a sustainable lighting project with the aim of minimizing light pollution near the Aigüestortes and Estany de Sant Maurici National Park.
The Diputació de Lleida has allocated a sum of 69,438.67 euros to carry out this initiative, which will cover Espui, Pobleta de Bellveí, Capdella, Central de Capdella, Vilaller and Senet in Alta Ribagorça. In total, 257 new luminaires will be installed to adapt these municipalities to the E1 level of protection.
International recognition
The Aigüestortes National Park and its surrounding towns were endorsed as a Starlight tourist destination in 2018, a Unesco distinction for the quality of the night sky. This space is characterized by its beauty and by having an exceptional dark sky with practically no light pollution.
Environmental Sustainability
The project financed with European Next Generation funds involves the replacement of current lights with others with a lower emission of light pollution. This includes replacing polluting lights with alternatives with a spectral emission of less than 1% below 500nm by LEDs.
Sustainable Tourism in Lleida
This action is part of the Tourism Sustainability Plan in Natural Destination Lleida, a program that aims to redefine the tourism model of the area and consolidate natural spaces as a driver of sustainable tourism development.
