The Department of the Territory starts a preventive auscultation campaign
The Department of Territory of Catalonia plans to carry out around 13,000 inspections of homes, premises and car parks around the route of the L8 extension works, with the aim of guaranteeing safety and documenting the state of conservation of buildings and infrastructures before the start of the works.
This month of March, the preventive auscultation campaign will begin in around 1,066 buildings, before the construction work of the stations and the excavation of the tunnel from Plaza España to Gràcia begin. Through this campaign, it is intended to provide property owners with an accurate record of the condition of their buildings prior to the works and to verify them after the works are completed, if necessary.
Crack detected in a building during previous works
During the work prior to the start of works on the L8 line of Ferrocarrils de la Generalitat, a crack was detected in a building on Carrer Urgell in Barcelona. The technicians found that the crack is of an aesthetic nature and is not caused by the work carried out in this area.
Inspections in common elements and installation of auscultation equipment
In the inspections that are now starting, common elements such as facades and stairs are evaluated in the buildings, as well as the interior of each home. Commercial premises and garages are also checked, and listening and control equipment is installed in the buildings to monitor the progress of the tunnel work.
Extension of the L8 line of Ferrocarrils de la Generalitat
The Department of Territory is carrying out the works for the connection of the Llobregat – Anoia and the Vallès de Ferrocarrils lines of the Generalitat de Catalunya (FGC), in Barcelona. This extension of the current line includes the construction of a four kilometer tunnel and the construction of three new stations: Hospital Clínic, Francesc Macià and Gràcia. Plaça Espanya and Gràcia stations will also be remodeled.
The works aim to improve the connection between the Vallès and Llobregat-Anoia lines and have a global investment of more than 400 million euros.
Effects on traffic during the works
During the works, traffic will be affected in different areas of Barcelona. It is expected that traffic lanes will be reduced on some streets and vehicles will be diverted along other roads. The route of the bus lines that stop in this area will also be modified.
