Massive support for the new board of directors

The new board of directors of the Balearic Cultural Work, led by Antoni Llabrés, has received very important support from the social mass of the Entity. After the results of the elections were made public and after learning that 1,173 members had mobilized to support the list headed by Llabrés, the president-elect made a short speech during which he assumed the past of the entity and spoke of the difficulties present for the values that the OCB has always defended. In this sense he said that “we need a strong, active and mobilized OCB”.

A support that demonstrates the strength of the entity

As a result of the results obtained, the jurist and titular professor of criminal law at the UIB and president of the OCB, stated that the high participation shows that the entity is stronger than ever, that its social base is active, involved and prepared to face the scenario of hostility and continuous attacks on our language and the main signs of our identity. Llabrés thanked the participation of all the members who voted in this process and very much, especially, the work that has been done from the different delegations that Obra Cultural Balear has throughout Mallorca. The president also had words of remembrance for the predecessors in office: “We assume a great responsibility because we sit on the backs of giants, giants who have preceded us, throughout these sixty years, we make the entire history of the Works, good and not so good moments, lights and shadows, we make it all ours, all the work of previous presidents and boards; but also from further back, from the Associació para la Cultura de Mallorca, from Emili Darder, who was its president, we come from afar and go even further”.

A team committed to the defense of language and culture

Antoni Llabrés also thanked the commitment of all the members who are part of his team for wanting to get involved in the project, at a time when the political context of the Balearic Islands needs a more active and strengthened OCB than ever, to defend our language and culture from the attacks to which they are subjected by the regressive and hostile policies of the current governing pact of the PP and VOX. Llabrés emphasized that his goal is to “maintain a strong Balearic Cultural Work, with enthusiasm and that it continues to be the reference entity in the defense of its own language and culture and that in adverse historical moments it has always been able to channel the demands and mobilizations of the people who believe in our country”.
