The (Re)turn, cooperativism in the Conca de Barberà

by PREMIUM.CAT

A Look at the Past

The (Re)volta, organized by Omnium Conca de Barberà and Baixa Segarra, will arrive in Barberà de la Conca on March 16. This event aims to explore how Barberà de la Conca became the cradle of the cooperative movement in the country. It all started in 1894 with the foundation of the Society of Agricultural Workers of the town of Barbará and the construction of the first cooperative winery in Catalonia. In addition, Cèsar Martinell from Vallenc led the construction of a modernist cellar, a true Cathedral of wine.

A Journey to the Present

The (Re)turn seeks to merge heritage, memory and territory to understand the past of cooperatives in the region, understand its present and visualize how it faces the challenges of the future.

Exploring Cooperative Heritage

The visit will begin with an exploration of the modernist winery by guide Antoni Bosch. Later, the group will move to the Celler de Baix, the first cooperative winery in Catalonia and, since 2006, home of the County Council’s Cellarists Nursery. This space has made it possible for new wineries to appear in the region, with new farmers and the generational change in the sector.

Discovering New Horizons

Guided by Jordi Giné and young winegrowers, visitors will have the opportunity to learn about the facilities and taste some of the wines produced at Celler Vidbertus and Celler Masades.
