More than a thousand people take part in the two non-competitive races that were held last Sunday in the Alt Empordà
Last Sunday, February 4, coinciding with World Cancer Day, several towns in Catalonia organized charity races to raise funds for research and support for patients and their families. In the Alt Empordà, two municipalities were the protagonists of this initiative: Vilafant and Navata, which added more than a thousand participants between the two.
Vilafant beats its participation record
In Vilafant, the ninth edition of the “Vilafant march Against Cancer” race managed to bring together 800 people who chose between the 5 or 10 kilometer routes, which could be done both running and walking. The start and finish took place in the area of the municipal swimming pool and the race was organized by the Vilafant Cancer Association, with the collaboration of the Vilafant Town Council, the Sports Council of Alt Empordà and other entities and companies.
Navata joins the Run4Cancer for the second time
In Navata, 161 people took part in the tenth edition of the Run4Cancer race, which was held simultaneously in thirteen other towns in the province of Girona: Anglès, Aiguaviva, Flaçà, Maçanet de la Selva, Olot, Palafrugell, Planoles , Porqueres, Riudellots de la Selva, Salt, Torroella de Montgrí and Tossa de Mar. In total, more than 4,800 people took part in this solidarity test, which had as its beneficiary the Fundació Oncolliga Girona. Navata was, for the second year in a row, the headquarters of Run4Cancer in Upper Temporanda, which increased the 130 participants of the previous year and which had as organizers the delegation in Navata de l’Oncolliga and the Guixaires de Navata. The race left and arrived at Sala 1 d’Octubre and, as in Vilafant, offered the possibility of running or walking the 5 or 10 kilometer circuits.
A gesture of solidarity and hope
Both in Vilafant and Navata, the participants showed their commitment and solidarity with the fight against cancer, a disease that affects thousands of people every year. With their registrations, they contributed to raising funds for research and support for those affected and their families. In addition, they enjoyed a sporting and festive day, with a sunny and cheerful atmosphere. The two races were an example of how sport can be a tool for health, integration and social awareness.
