A four-decade journey in inclusive catechesis
Forty years ago, the Terrassa community began a significant journey in the world of catechesis with the creation of a special program for children with disabilities. This initiative was born from the dedication of a group of passionate catechists, including prominent figures such as Gaspar Ortí and his wife Anna M. Salvador, who has continued their work with great commitment.
A moment of celebration and gratitude
On February 8, the parish of Sant Cristòfol became the scene of an emotional event, where children and families gathered to thank God for his love and support over the years. The mass, presided over by the bishop of Terrassa, Salvador Cristau, was a key moment, highlighting the confirmation of two catechists, with the active participation of priests who have been with this cause since its beginnings.
The importance of inclusion in faith
The history of special catechesis in Terrassa dates back to a growing demand from parents who wanted their children with disabilities to be able to experience Communion. This desire prompted key figures such as Monsignor Lluís Bonet to join forces with committed lay people to open new paths of inclusion.
Adaptation and understanding: Keys to success
The key to effective catechesis for children with disabilities lies in the ability to offer unconditional and accessible love. More than transmitting knowledge, its purpose is to allow a direct experience of God, adapting the pedagogical content to the specific needs of the children.
The experience of God through the eyes of children
Children with disabilities often express their faith in unique ways, displaying an authenticity that enriches the community. Their ability to share, listen, and respect others can serve as an example of spiritual renewal for all of us.
Reflections on social change
Over time, social awareness regarding children with disabilities has evolved. Today, there is greater acceptance and recognition of their dignity as human beings with the right to be loved and valued. The mission of the Church continues to be to accompany and foster their spiritual growth, a commitment that fills us with gratitude and satisfaction.
The future of special catechesis
Looking to the future, the work of special catechesis remains alive and relevant. The community continues to work to ensure that every child has the opportunity to feel loved by God and to live a full and meaningful spiritual experience.
