An unexpectedly warm Thursday
The week presents a notable contrast, with Thursday marking a surprisingly high temperature. Thermometers are expected to reach 20ºC, especially in coastal areas and the Ebro valley. With the absence of fog and the arrival of warm winds, many will be able to enjoy a day that will remind them of spring, although it will be short-lived.
The arrival of a cold front
Starting on Thursday afternoon, a cold front will move in strongly, leaving behind the warm atmosphere. The wind, which is expected to be intense, will become the main factor in the following days, especially affecting the northern regions and the coast between Barcelona and the Ebro Delta.
Weather alert
The Meteorological Service of Catalonia has issued warnings for wind and wave conditions, anticipating an increase in wind intensity. Although Barcelona is not included in the initial alerts, the city is also expected to feel the impact with moderate winds during the afternoon and night.
Snowfall and light rain
In terms of precipitation, snowfall is expected to be concentrated mainly on the northern slope of the Pyrenees, with a gradual drop in the snow level to 700 meters. There is the possibility that some snowfall will reach the southern slope, but it will be much less significant.
Associated phenomena
The combination of the mistral and the tramuntana could cause the phenomenon of rebuffolk, with the possibility of showers on the coast of Barcelona during the night from Thursday to Friday, where a storm could also occur.
Winter is coming.
With the arrival of this front, winter will set in more permanently, just in time for Christmas. Friday’s temperature will drop dramatically, with drops that could exceed 8 ºC in some mountain areas.
Prospects for the holidays
Weather models indicate that the cold will continue for the next few days, with a slight recovery expected for Sunday. However, a new cold front could arrive towards the end of Sunday and the beginning of Monday, with similarities to the current situation.
A Christmas with a traditional flavour
The perspective is that the first part of the festivities will take place in a wintry atmosphere, with lingering cold in the interior and more pleasant temperatures on the coast. It seems that this Christmas will be marked by the classic characteristics, with an anticyclone that will bring stability, although with some uncertainties in the forecast.
As the festive season approaches, weather conditions are likely to remain mild during the day, with the anti-cyclone prevailing, and little risk of snow in the Christmas period, beyond the fronts that will pass through the region.
