Arrest of a suspected thief in Aiguafreda
A joint operation between the investigative units of the Mossos d’Esquadra de Granollers and Vic has culminated in the arrest of a 44-year-old individual, accused of being the author of several robberies at gas stations located along road C -17. The operation took place last Monday in Aiguafreda.
A series of well-planned ambushes
The alleged perpetrator is said to have committed a total of five robberies, three of which took place at gas stations in Vallès Oriental, specifically in Lliçà d’Amunt and Tagamanent. The remaining two were recorded in Tona, Osona. The most recent incidents occurred on October 15, when two robberies were attempted, one of which was unsuccessful.
Intimidating methods and loot obtained
During the actions, the man used a knife to intimidate workers, managing to steal cash from some of the gas stations. The first incident occurred in Tona on September 27, when he threatened an employee with a knife and took the cash register.
Investigation and connections between the robberies
After multiple reports, the investigation units began to gather information and determined that the different robberies were linked to the same perpetrator. In total, the loot accumulated by the man amounts to around 1,200 euros.
A persistent problem in the region
The situation of gas station robberies is not new in the region. In March, another 30-year-old man was arrested for seven similar robberies, affecting establishments in Lliçà de Vall, Mollet and Canovelles. This individual hid under caps and hoods, and also used a razor to intimidate the victims.
Legal consequences and security proposals
The recently arrested man has been remanded in custody at the Granollers Magistrate’s Court, where the legal implications of his behaviour will be analysed. As the community becomes more concerned about safety, the need for stricter measures to protect petrol station workers and customers is being debated.
