A visual tribute to cultural history

The new mural by artist Elisa Capdevila stands as a tribute to the rich history of the Talia Theater. Located on the dividing wall adjacent to the old theater, this monumental work was completed on November 8th, with the support of the Sant Antoni Recuperem el Talia Platform, which brings together several neighborhood associations.

Inauguration celebration

The inauguration of the mural is scheduled for the morning of November 16. It will be a festive event that will feature performances by the Pallassa Txetake, a musical duet from the Escola de Músics, as well as the presence of the artist Elisa Capdevila and other prominent figures such as Marc Folch and Toni Oller.

A community project with deep roots

This mural is the result of a collective effort curated by Street Art Barcelona, with the active participation of a dozen neighborhood organizations. For more than ten years, these organizations have fought for the creation of a new theater in the same location, and in 2021, the City Council expropriated the land with the intention of developing sheltered housing and a cultural space. Currently, the site functions as a community meeting point and occasionally hosts cultural activities.

A feminist message through art

Elisa Capdevila’s artistic proposal incorporates a feminist perspective, highlighting the importance of women both in the world of theater and in the fight to reclaim space. This topic was selected through a participatory process with the entities involved.

The symbolism of the work

According to Capdevila, the mural captures the climax of a theatrical performance, when the curtain falls and an actress removes her make-up in the dressing room. This symbolic gesture is directly linked to the story of the Talia and its closure. The artist expresses his pride and satisfaction to be able to contribute with his work to such a significant place in his city.
