Welcome to a new age
With the inaugural ceremony of Pope Leo XIV, the Catholic Church begins a new chapter. On May 18, in front of a multitude of 200,000 people at the iconic Plaça de Sant Pere, the new pontiff shared its first words, a homily that resonates with a message of gratitude and hope.
A gratitude
In his speech, the Pope expressed a deep sense of gratitude, quoting Saint Augustine to remember that our hearts always seek rest in God. At a time of transition, his voice prayed with the echo of the recent loss of Pope Francis, a figure who had left a significant imprint on the hearts of the faithful.
The mission of being a shepherd
The Pontificate of Leon XIV is presented as a challenge to continue the mission that Jesus entrusted to Saint Peter. In a world marked by dispersal, the new pope emphasizes the importance of gathering believers and guiding them to an experience of love and unity. Its call to be ‘men’s fishermen’ emphasizes the need to share the gospel in every corner of the world.
The importance of love
Love, as defined, is not only a feeling, but a responsibility. The Pope referred to the relationship between Jesus and Peter, emphasizing that only through the experience of God’s love can we really take care of the herd. This dynamic of service and delivery is the foundation of its ministry.
A call to unit
At a time when division and conflict are ubiquitous, the Pope called on the unity. He expressed the desire of a Church to act as a symbol of communion, a fraternity yeast in a world that is often affected by violence and intolerance.
Building a shared future
His vision for the future includes collaboration with other communities of faith and those who seek the truth. In a world full of differences, the Pope calls for evaluating the various personal and cultural experiences as part of the collective journey to God.
A Church on Mission
Finally, the pope closed his homily with an invitation to be agents of love and unity. With the strength of the Holy Spirit, he encouraged us to build a church that not only opens in the world, but also self -examining in order to be a true sign of concord and hope for humanity.
This new start reminds us that each of us plays a role in building a more united and loving world. Together, like a single family, we move forward with faith, a spirit of service and the determination to love each other.
