The Transition to a New Era

The Hospitaller Sisters of the Sacred Heart of Jesus are beginning a new chapter in their history, transferring the management of their healthcare facilities to the recently created Hospitaller Foundation. This change represents a significant evolution in their mission, although the centers in Castile and León are not part of this first step.

A Promising Future for Healthcare

The Hospitalarias Foundation not only preserves the legacy of the sisters, which began over 140 years ago, but is also committed to ensuring the viability of its services. Currently, with more than 360,000 patients treated and a team of over 9,000 professionals, the Foundation is established as an essential entity in the Spanish healthcare system.

Collaboration and Commitment

Since its inception, the Congregation has prioritized collaboration with professionals who share its vision and values. This synergy has been key to maintaining the impact of its healthcare work over the years, and now, the Hospitalàries Foundation will continue this path with a new perspective.

Renewed Values and Mission

With the new name, the Foundation is committed to maintaining the principles that have guided the Sisters Hospitallers for over 143 years. Its mission focuses on caring for those most in need, including those with mental health problems, intellectual disabilities and palliative care needs.

Comprehensive and Inclusive Care

The main objective of the Foundation is to provide quality care that allows for the recovery and social reintegration of patients, ensuring that each individual is recognized as a full citizen.

Presence and Impact in Catalonia

In Catalonia, the Hospitalàries Foundation includes five health centers and more than 50 community services in various locations such as Barcelona, Sant Boi and Granollers, with a team of 2,698 professionals dedicated to healthcare.

Rebranding and Identity

Barcelona’s hospitals have also changed their names to reflect this new stage: the Sant Rafael Hospital becomes the Fundació Hospitalàries Barcelona-Hospital General, while other centers such as the Mare de Déu de la Mercè Hospital adopt the name Fundació Hospitalàries Barcelona Nord.

Looking Towards the Future

With this restructuring, the Hospitalàries Foundation is positioned to face the challenges of the future with a renewed heart and an unwavering commitment to hospitality and care for the most vulnerable. Its evolution not only represents a change of name, but a reaffirmation of its commitment to society.
