An organ with Japanese origins
The cathedral of Lleida is about to receive a new organ that comes from a Japanese cultural institution. According to the diocese of Lleida, the organ, which began to be installed on May 3, arrives at the cathedral thanks to a donation from the Japanese foundation Ueno-Gauken. This instrument, which was previously in the Ishibashi Memorial Hall in Tokyo, has been transported from Japan to Barcelona via the Suez Canal.
A donation that benefits everyone
The cathedral of Lleida has explained that the decision to have an organ with Japanese origins was made after discarding the possibility of acquiring a new organ, due to its high cost. In this sense, the bishopric began the search for a second-hand organ that would fit the characteristics of the space and the acoustic conditions of the cathedral. After contacting the Ueno Gauken Foundation, which had this organ in the Ishibashi Memorial Hall in Tokyo, an agreement was reached to move it to the Lleida cathedral.
A complex assembly process
Currently, the operators of the Klais company are working on the process of assembling the organ in the cathedral of Lleida. This process will take about a month, and then it will be necessary to devote another month and a half to tuning and harmonizing the instrument. The organ will be located above the portal of the Gospel, to the left of the main altar of the cathedral. It is planned that the inauguration of the new organ will take place on September 29, coinciding with the feast of Saint Michael.
