BARCELONA, March 21 (EUROPA PRESS) –
An inmate of the Mas d’Enric prison (Tarragona) was sentenced to 11 days of solitary confinement for punching another inmate who had insulted him on October 31, 2023, as reported by the minister of Justice, Rights and Memory of the Generalitat, Gemma Ubasart. This incident was the inmate’s only one during his time in prison, from April 2016 to June 2018, when he was convicted of the crime for which he was imprisoned.
After the punch, the inmate took his responsibility to the officials without showing any violent or hostile attitude towards them. As a precautionary measure, he was subjected to immediate isolation. Later, he was transferred to another module and, on December 14, 2023, the disciplinary committee decided to sanction him with 11 days of solitary confinement. However, this sentence was not carried out before the inmate committed the murder of the prison’s head chef last week.
Councilor Ubasart has appeared before the permanent delegation of the Parliament to report on this tragic event.
