A tradition that endures over time

The Royal College of the Monastery of Santa Isabel in Barcelona has once again surprised with its living nativity scene, a tradition that this year celebrated its fourth edition. This event, which took place on December 13, seeks to recover the soul of the original nativity scenes created by Saint Francis of Assisi in the 13th century.

A community united by art and faith

A group of seventy-five members of the educational community—students, teachers and families—have worked with dedication to bring iconic scenes from the birth of Jesus to life. Berta Puig, the center’s communications manager, highlights the emotional impact of scenes such as the Annunciation and the Visit of the Shepherds.

Innovations that enrich the experience

This edition has included a significant novelty: a series of ten images representing key figures from biblical history, creating a bridge between the promises of the Old Testament and the birth of the Messiah. Live music, performed by a choir made up of teachers and students, has added a magical touch to the performance.

An experience beyond the stage

According to Puig, the living nativity scene is much more than just a theatrical performance; it is a true reflection of the community. This activity encourages teamwork, learning artistic skills and understanding biblical narratives. Students not only memorize texts, but also design costumes and create sets.

A deep message in every scene

Araceli Pou, head of Pastoral for Infants and Primary School, emphasizes that the objective is evangelizing. Each scene includes a narrator who contextualizes the visitors, and at the end of each performance, the children participate in a prayer that invites reflection on the true meaning of Christmas.

A look into the future

With six performances scheduled for Friday, the school has plans to expand the event next year. The idea is to open a session on Saturday afternoon for the local community and, in collaboration with the parish of Sant Vicenç de Sarrià, take the living nativity scene to the streets of the neighborhood.

The ultimate goal: an encounter with Jesus

Father Manuel Salord LC, director of the school, expresses that all of his pastoral work seeks to facilitate the students’ encounter with Jesus, with a special focus during Christmas, a time when they want young people to experience the magic of this spiritual encounter.
