The Power of Collaboration: A Successful Senior Housing Model
In the heart of Sant Feliu, the Adela Barquí building emerges as a beacon of hope, demonstrating the transformative power of collaboration between institutions and social organizations. This pioneering project, inaugurated in 2022, is a testament to how shared vision can create a lasting impact on the lives of older people.
The visit of Susana Segovia, deputy of the Parliament of Catalonia for the Commons; Aurora Huerga, candidate number 12 on the Comunes Sumar list; and Lídia Muñoz, councilor for Sant Feliu in Comú Podem, to this emblematic building, underlines the commitment of the lilac formation to caring for the elderly and promoting inclusive social policies.
A Decent Home: Affordable Housing for Vulnerable Seniors
The Adela Barquín building houses 90 rental homes designed specifically for people over 65 years of age in vulnerable situations. These apartments, which range between 40 and 50 square meters, offer a safe and comfortable environment, with essential services such as concierge, cleaning of common areas and maintenance of facilities.
Rental prices range between 314 and 354 euros, with additional community fees of between 148.5 and 165 euros. In addition, residents have access to social and personal support and accompaniment services, allowing them to maintain their independence and well-being.
However, the Family and Social Welfare Foundation, responsible for managing the building, establishes minimum income requirements to access these homes, which may exclude people with more limited financial resources.
Inclusive Policies: Addressing Housing Vulnerability
Recognizing the need to address housing vulnerability, the Sant Feliu City Council has reserved a portion of the homes in the Adela Barquín building for people at risk of residential exclusion. This measure ensures that those who need it most have access to a decent and affordable home.
Lila training’s commitment to senior care extends beyond housing. Representative Susana Segovia highlights the importance of a paradigm shift in the care of older adults, promoting access to decent housing and community spaces.
The Right to Decide: The Commons Position on the Referendum
As the elections to the Parliament of Catalonia approach, the lilac party reiterates its support for the right to decide. Susana Segovia affirms that the Catalan political conflict must be resolved through a referendum that allows Catalans to express their will.
However, the Commons recognize the need for prior dialogue with all Catalan political forces and civil society to determine the conditions and format of the referendum. The party advocates a left-wing coalition, but expresses concern about the lack of clarity in ERC’s political project.
Municipal Elections: Differentiating between Local and National
At the municipal level, Lídia Muñoz trusts that voters will distinguish between municipal elections and elections to the Parliament. Despite the loss of confidence in SFECP training, she hopes the campaign will enable citizens to understand current needs and opportunities.
