Curtis Phil Hsu is crowned in a high -level competition
The 70th edition of the prestigious Maria Canals International Music Competition has been the winner of the only 20 -year -old pianist, Curtis Phil Hsu, from the United States. With an exceptional performance, HSU has surpassed 61 competitors from 25 different nations, thus obtaining the Fundación Occidente Prize, which includes an endowment of 25,000 euros, a gold medal and the possibility of performing four concerts with recognized orchestras in Madrid, Bilbao, Granada and Tenerife.
More winners and recognitions
Second place was for the 28 -year -old Slovenian Slovenian Kamplet, who received the Maria Font de Carulla Award, which includes 10,000 euros and a medal. Third, the Taiwanese pianist Pin-Hong Lin has been recognized with the Vila Casas Foundation Award, valued at 6,000 euros.
An apotheosal ending in the Palace of Music
The final round of the competition took place on Wednesday, April 2 at the magnificent Palau de la Música Catalana, which recorded an absolute plenary session and an atmosphere full of emotion. The participants performed their pieces with the Young National Orchestra of Catalonia (JONC), under the baton of director Manel Valdivieso. In addition, the audience, both present in the room and those who followed the online event, had the opportunity to vote, resulting in the audience award given to Nejc Kamplet.
The prize delivery gala
The closing ceremony and awards ceremony of this commemorative edition will be held on Thursday, April 3 at 6 pm, in the Saló de Cent of the Barcelona City Council, thus celebrating the successes of these brilliant musicians.
Curtis Phil Hsu: a prodigy of the plan
Born in Alabama in 2004, Curtis Phil Hsu started playing the piano at the age of four. His musical career took a significant turn when he joined the International Summer Academy in 2014, and was later accepted to the Mozarteum Pre-College in the Leopold Mozart Institute for Exceptional Talents in 2016. After obtaining his degree in 2023, HSU continues his master’s degree at Hannover Music, Drama and Media University.
A promising future
In 2024, Curtis won the first prize in the 17th International Concert Concert Contest for Hastings, including the Sussex Award. He has also been awarded the Auvers-sur-Oise Festival Festival and Hastings Fellowship, which has opened its doors to debut at the Cadogan Hall in London with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, under the direction of Jac Van Steen. With a bright future ahead, Curtis Phil Hsu positions himself as one of the most promising pianists of his generation.
